The Fiscal Sponsor
Women Make Movies (WMM) is a multicultural, multiracial, non-profit media arts organization which facilitates the production, promotion, distribution and exhibition of independent films and videotapes by and about women. WMM was established in 1972 to address the under representation and misrepresentation of women in the media industry. The organization provides services to both users and makers of film and video programs.
What is Fiscal Sponsorship
Fiscal sponsorship allows a project to accept funds that require non profit tax-exempt status. Non-profit status is required by many foundations, corporations and government agencies in order to be eligible for funding since many do not accept applications proposals from individuals. Additionally, 501(c) status allows the filmmaker to receive tax-exempt contributions from individuals, a major incentive for indiviudals who are considering making a donation to project.
As the fiscal sponsor , WMM accepts donations or grants on behalf of the filmmaker and takes the responsibility of administering the funds received in support of the development and completion of the film.
